I recently taught children, teenagers, and adults English as a second/foreign language in New York City and Daegu, South Korea (so, I comprehend and speak at least an elementary amount of Korean). Before teaching, I had been a writer for several New York City magazines, newsletters, and a guidebook, titled, SEXY NEW YORK CITY--so, I know what's "hip" (and "naughty") throughout the New York City area. I prefer ethnic neighborhoods (Chinatown/Lower East Side, Manhattan; Greenpoint, Brooklyn; Astoria, Queens), ethnic restaurants (Ethiopian, Indian, Middle Eastern), and ethnic pubs (Ukrainian and Bulgarian pubs in Manhattan)--though I often hang at the Washington Square Hotel in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, in its dimly-lit, coppered lounge for a dry, Belvedere vodka martini--shaken, not stirred. I have studied overseas in Prague, Czech Republic (so I comprehend and speak a minimal amount of Czech, German, and Polish, too), consider myself to be a Buddho-Christian, and write poetry.
